Q-Park invests £3.5 million in Glasgow car park

Q-Park Ltd has spent a hefty £3.5 million on a lavish car-park refurbishment at Waterloo Street, Glasgow.

Opened officially on 9th November, the 660-space car park is distinguished by its eye-catching façade comprising 12 kilometres of Siberian larch louvered cladding. The cladding enables a naturally ventilated environment and provides a secure ‘transparency’, changing from day to night through the interior lighting. The warmth and natural feel of the cladding contrasts dramatically with a steel panel-clad helix, which manages vertical circulation.

A façade of this kind has never been attempted in the UK before and is so distinctive that one passer-by thought the car park was being rebuilt as a smart new hotel.

Q-Park’s unique house style has been applied throughout, ensuring a safe, comfortable, convenient and attractive environment for customers to park their vehicles. A new bridge system has been installed with a pedestrian-friendly payment area, which eliminates previous access hazards for those on foot and creates a very open environment at the car park entrance. There is also a smart new glazed parking hosts lodge, similarly designed for maximum openness offering visible staff and comfort for customers; and well-planned illumination has been installed right through the car park so that it remains light, bright, welcoming and safe during the evenings.

Another innovation is that the car park is due to be accessed 24 hours a day by means of a high-technology node-access system. Customers can enter the car park after normal closing at 11pm, with full and constant security provided by Q-Park’s control centre in Leeds.
